Kuat 2 Bike Black Chrome NV Rack (2-Inch) Reviews
2 bike rack : Kuat 2 Bike Black Chrome NV Rack (2-Inch) Reviews
I've ownded an old Sportworks T2 (now Thule T2) for the past 5-6 years. It's been a great rack that's served me very well. Unfortunately, the backbone finally wore out on the rack and needed to be replaced. Sadly, Thule doesn't sell this part anymore, so you have to replace the entire rack now. They also don't sell replacement bushings for the hinge, which is a shame because the bushings wear out rather quickly when you add on the 2 bike extension. As a result I was in the market for a new rack. The T2 worked very well for me, but after seeing some friends have some catastrophic failures that involved very expensive bikes I decided to look around to see what else is out there.
When I saw the NV, I was really impressed. And after using it for a few months, I have to say it's the best rack I've owned.
The anti-rattle mechanism on the T2 was really poorly designed. I don't know anyone who has a hitch that it works properly with. The mechanism on the NV is... Read more

The Kuat NV bike rack is awesome. It's relatively light, quick and easy to install. It's also very easy and quick to mount bikes. The hitch tightening device works well in removing slack between the receiver and the rack (thereby eliminating a source of swaying). Bike of different wheel bases can be easily accommodated as the rear wheel strap can be slid back and forth. We recently went on 1200 mile trip with the rack attached to a travel trailer bumper hitch without any problems. Our new bikes were unmarred. Our old rack would have worn the paint down at the hold down site. One note of caution: the rear bike's handle bar end was only 2 inches away from the back of the trailer although there was no evidence that it made contact with the trailer wall anytime during the trip. The bike repair stand is a great idea and comes in handy. I use it to clean and lub the bikes at home as it eliminates a lot of bending down. The integrated bike lock is a nice touch too. Its a little... Read more

Did my homework on this one.. Found it to be stright forward enough. One of the plastic end caps was broken in the packing process. No big deal. I haven't even tried to contact them for a new one. It works as advertised! It looks really great. Unique style.. I like it and have recomended it to friends. I use it for my 29er and my wifes 26" wheel mtn bike. Works perfect for both.

This add-on is an update of the 916XT T2 add-on release. It contains improved bike to carrier cable locking abilities and maintains all the functionality of the 916XTR T2 carrier including: quick-loading bike trays, SecureHook ratcheting support arms, tilt down functionality for rear vehicle access and the ability to fold up towards the vehicle when not loaded.

Extend the Functionality of Your Thule 916XTR T2 Hitch Rack
Although the ability to carry two bikes is good - four bikes is sometimes simply better, and better yet is the ability to choose between one or the other in a single rack configuration, depending on the number of bikes on hand. This is just what the Thule 918XTR provides. Perfect for growing families and/or ride coordinators who have a varying number or companions from ride to ride, the Thule 918XTR T2 2-Inch Receiver 2-Bike Add-on Hitch Rack is designed for cyclists/drivers who already own and enjoy the functionality of their Thule 916XTR T2 2-Bike Platform Hitch Rack, but want to extend their carrying capacity to four bikes.
The same functionality as the 916XTR T2 including SecureHook support arms, Hitch Switch folding forward and more. View larger.
Improved locking functionality over earlier hitch mount rack modular add-ons that now includes cable lock for each bike. View larger.
The thule 918XTR is a seamless add-on, allowing for all the functionality of the base Thule 916XTR T2 hitch rack. This includes: quick-loading bike trays; SecureHook ratcheting technology that secures bikes to trays via independent heavy-duty foldable support arms that clamp down on front wheels; adjustable rear wheel straps that hold the rear of bikes to the tray; tilt down functionality -- even when loaded -- for rear vehicle access; and the ability to fold up all four bike trays towards the vehicle when not loaded.
Easy Modular Installation
The 918XTR T2's modular design ensures easy installation and removal as the number of riders changes. To install simply insert the 2-inch backbone add-on assembly of the 918XTR T2 inline with that of your existing and installed 916XTR T2 rack, and tighten. (The 918XTR T2 is only compatible with the 2-inch hitch configuration of the Thule 916XTR T2 carrier.) The longer platform created allows for the mounting of the two bike tray assemblies -- each with independent SecureHook support arms -- that are provided. Only minimal tools and measuring equipment are required for spacing and installation of trays. Once this has been done, owners can also utilize the retractable locks that attach bikes to the ratcheting heads of the SecureHook support arms, to provide protection against bike theft when away from your loaded vehicle. This is a significant security upgrade from the earlier 918XT T2 model.

About Thule
Thule was founded in 1942 by the Thulin family, when Eric Thulin, a true lover of the outdoors, put the Thule name on a pike trap he designed and began to sell in Scandinavia. It wasn't long before he added other practical items to the company's portfolio. By the 1960s, the company began to concentrate on car-related products, including its first roof rack. The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions ever since. The Thule Group is a world leader in providing transport solutions for an active life.

2 bike rack : Thule 918XTR T2 2 Bike Add-On Hitch Rack (2-Inch) Reviews
This review is from: Thule 918XTR T2 Add-on for 916CTR Hitch Bike Rack (2") (Sports)
The very first use was to travel over 800 miles in heavy traffic and back-up. The Thule 918XTR 2 Bike add-on was attached to the 916XTR 2 Bike rack to make a four bike platform. It performed very well. Carried the maximum four bikes on the entire trip with no problem. Just a minor issue of having same size bikes next to each other (they were touching), but that was easily solved by rearranging the bikes. The rack stayed securely attached to the truck, the add-on stayed securely attached to the original 2 Bike rack. The bikes did not touch and they stayed secured throughout the entire trip. The rack was easy to assemble and it took no time at all. One of the locks came with one key instead of two. Just discovering some rust on different areas of the rack now (especially the rear wheel strap pins and clips). Hopefully this will not eventually compromise the rack. A little on the heavy side, the tilt function lever was a little hard to engage/disengage, but the tilt function worked well... Read more

I bought this to (obviously) extend our existing Thule bike-tray hitch-mounted carrier so we could cart an additional 2 bikes of friends around with us.
I have to admit to being a bit surprised at just so much heft this adds to the 2-bike rack. Adding this just makes it a bit unwieldy - it's taller so it blocks more view behind you, when you have it down and hauling 4 bikes, it's a bit more like dragging a trailer behind you, etc.
No way around that, it's still a great product in that it keeps you from having to lift bike frames up onto small hooks and securing them, but just be aware of the size. I'm a 6'5", 240lb guy and I find it unwieldly to maneuver on-and-off the car, and even dropping down or locking in its upright position, in its full 4-bike configuration - I don't think this is something that a slighter person would find any easier.
Also, they changed the locking mechanism for the individual bikes - a cable now pulls out the top and wraps... Read more

The QuickBack is so good-looking, easy to install and fast to load, it completely redefines what a trunk-style bike carrier is supposed to be. So if you work for a dictionary company, you should probably look into updating that particular definition.

2 bike rack : Yakima Quick Back 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack Reviews
This review is from: Yakima Quick Back 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack (Sports)
This bike rack mounted to my 2008 Accord which has a spoiler and fit great. Once strapped on it was very sturdy and felt like it was part of the car. The bike rack looks really amazing and is very stylish and functional. The problems I have with it are:
1. The straps slip some and become a little loose while traveling and I had to tighten them every hour or two on my 12 hour drive to Colorado.
2. The two bike bikes are so close together that they rubbed frames and took the paint off the bikes forks and back frame. There needs to be more spacing between the two mounting areas, I would by the Quickback 3 for my two bikes so there could be some space inbetween the two bikes.
3. I bought this rack because I wanted a really good rack with good padding that wouldn't scratch my new car. I made sure I washed the car and cleared any dust etc from the trunk before I mounted it but at the end of the trip there were big scuffed square marks on my truck where... Read more

This review is from: Yakima Quick Back 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack (Sports)
Casual riders, my wife and I needed a way to transport bikes (2) on our C230 Sport (Benz). Looked into all the options, roof rail, rear hitch and trunk mount. The first were cost prohibitive ($750+). Remember, "casual". The car has a small spoiler and I was also concerned about possible damage to finish and lid edges. To help with the former make sure it's a clean dry surface. I then snugged two wax applicators (a sponge wrapped in micro cloth with a hand slot) over the trunk pads. Worked like a charm! The Quick Back 2 is easy and quick to mount and has nice touches like clips to hold the extra length of the straps neatly.Bikes are loaded and straps re-tightened before you go and checked along the way. Isolate bikes frames from each other with micro fiber towels and velcro strap together. The three bike model might be a better choice even for only two bikes for more room.

This is a great product. It was recommended to me by an avid biker friend of mine. The Quick Back is exactly that--quick...and sturdy. I'm 5' 2" and drive a Rogue, and I have absolutely no trouble setting it up or taking it down. The straps are sturdy as well as the mount itself. I got it at a GREAT price on Amazon ($76 less than the Yakima website) plus free shipping.
